Minimization of Inhibitor Generation in Rice Straw Hydrolysate Using RSM Optimization Technique

Ethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass comprises pretreatment, hydrolysis, and fermentation. However, several inhibitors are generated during rice straw chemical including furfural, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), phenolics. These inhibitors, i.e., furfural HMF, toxic to yeast cells, can negatively impact growth metabolism, reduce the process efficiency yield. Total phenolics also reported inhibit metabolism act as a source of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which damage cells. Therefore, minimizing generation these hydrolysis is essential improve yield ethanol Optimization variables help inhibitor increase used detoxification methods such adsorption, ion exchange, biological methods. This study aimed minimize biomass. Minitab 17 software was employed response surface curve regression analysis develop quadratic equation an optimized for minimized release molecules. The main in pretreated hydrolysate identified were (48.60%/100 g solid biomass), HMF (2.32%/100 total (1.65%/100 biomass). optimal pretreatment conditions loading rate 15% w/v, H2SO4concentration 12% v/v, reaction time 30 min, temperature 100 °C. reduced by up one half fold.
